A Bolingbrook police officer suffered a broken foot Wednesday afternoon while chasing a man who had allegedly stolen from a Walmart and assaulted the store’s security guard.

Police responded to the Walmart at 200 S. Bolingbrook Dr. about 2:40 p.m. Wednesday, according to Lt. Michael Rompa.

Ryan M. Greene, 21, of Glendale Heights, had allegedly walked out of the store with a portable speaker system he did not pay for, Rompa said.

A security guard approached Greene at the front of the store and he assaulted the guard, according to Rompa.

Greene then fled on foot toward a residential area on the other side of Bolingbrook Drive, Rompa said.

Police began a search of the area and found Greene near a home.

He again fled from officers and was eventually apprehended back on Bolingbrook Drive, Rompa said.

Greene faces a felony resisting an officer charge, as well as misdemeanor theft, battery and resisting charges, according to the Will County Sheriff’s Office website.

He is being held on $10,000 bail, according to the site.
