Update: The reported child-luring was a ‘misunderstanding,’ according to Plainfield Community Consolidated School District 202 officials.
Romeoville police are asking for the public’s help in locating a man who allegedly tried to lure a 5-year-old into his vehicle Wednesday afternoon.
A 5-year-old girl got off a school bus just after 4 p.m. Wednesday near Tammany and Tuscany lanes, Assistant Police Chief Steve Lucchesi said.
The girl was approached by a man standing by a vehicle who said he could drive her home.
The girl’s sister saw her talking with the man and shepherded her away, Lucchesi said.
A parent was alerted and called police, he said.
The man is described as in his 40s, about 5-foot-8 with brown hair and brown eyes, according to Plainfield Community Consolidated School District 202 officials.
He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and gray pants and returned to a small blue car after the incident.

Lucchesi said the kids handled the situation well.
“Keep on walking,” he said of what kids should do if approached in such a way. “If you have to, run. And tell a responsible adult.”
