Notre Dame is a half-hour away for Jhonny Williams, and that was as far as the linebacker recruit wanted to go.
Williams, a three-star linebacker from Berrien Springs, Mich., made an oral commitment to the Irish on Wednesday after initially pledging allegiance to Missouri.
“Never meant to confuse anyone or do things I don’t mean,” Williams wrote on his Twitter account Wednesday. “But this is what’s best for my family.”
The 6-foot-6, 230-pound Williams is rated the No. 18 prospect in Michigan in the Class of 2014 and is Notre Dame’s 19th pledge in its current recruiting haul. Besides Missouri, mostly MAC schools were in pursuit of Williams, who reportedly had offers from Ball State, Bowling Green, Toledo and San Diego State.
