Sittercity is returning to its roots as an online matchmaker between families and babysitters, and it’s raised $13 million in new investment to do it.

The Chicago-based company, founded in 2001, said Monday that it has closed a $13 million round consisting of debt and equity. Watertown, Mass.-based Bright Horizons Family Solutions, which operates more than 750 child care centers worldwide, was one of the investors and also signed a partnership agreement with Sittercity. The company’s existing investors, including local firms Apex Venture Partners and Pritzker Group Venture Capital (formerly New World Ventures), participated in the new round. With the $13 million, Sittercity has raised $43.1 million. Its last round of $22.6 million, led by Baird Venture Partners and New World Ventures, was in 2011.
