Starbucks said Wednesday that it will hire at least 10,000 veterans and spouses of active-duty military personnel over the next five years, making the world’s largest coffee chain the latest company to make a big commitment to supporting the nation’s armed forces.

The company’s plan will involve establishing a unit that seeks to match the skill sets of veterans and military spouses with work across Starbucks. It will also build on and expand Starbucks mentoring programs provided through the Armed Forces Network, an organization aiming to smooth veterans’ transition back into the civilian workforce. Starbucks first teamed up with the AFN in 2007.

Starbucks also said it will offer a free tall coffee to veterans, active duty military and military spouses on Veterans Day, Nov. 11.
