Illinois quarterback Nathan Scheelhaase was named the Big Ten’s Offensive Player of the Week Monday following his performance in Saturday’s 42-34 win over Southern Illinois.

Scheelhaase passed for a career-high 416 yards, the 10th-highest single-game total in Illini history. He surpassed his previous mark of 391 yards against Northwestern in October of 2011.

The senior completed 28-of-36 passes and threw two touchdowns in the win. Scheelhaase would have had another score had receiver Ryan Lankford not dropped what appeared to be a sure touchdown.

With his 389 total yards of offense against SIU — he lost lost yardage due to four sacks — Scheelhaase moved ahead of Jason Verduzco into fourth in career total offense with 7,480 yards. Juice Williams holds the all-time mark with 10,594 yards.
