First-time Emmy nominee Julian Jarrold took a few creative liberties when directing “
.” For instance, Gwyneth Hughes’ script called for birds to attack Sienna Miller’s character Tippi Hedren, then a “fade to black.” Unsure of the time lapse between those elements, Jarrold extended the sequence to show its full impact.
“We started with cutouts, then stuffed birds on wires, a bit of CGI, before doing what (Alfred Hitchcock) did and unleashing as many birds as possible into a tiny confined space onto the always stoical Sienna Miller,” Jarrold says.
