Timothes Stanford checks his phone for messages while standing at 120th Place and State Street, not far from where his brother lies dead. (Terrence Antonio James, baiduhai)

Stanford doesn’t remember the ride Thursday night to the crime scene from Harvey, where he and his brother moved after Stanford was shot in March of last year.

Bingmon had frequently returned to the old neighborhood with his bike on a Pace bus to visit a girlfriend — a point of contention with his aunt, Angela Bingmon.

“I just kept saying, I told him about going back to the old neighborhood. ‘You don’t live there, what’re you going back there for? Everybody knows it’s bad over here,’ ” Bingmon said.

More than four dozen people were shot in the police district from late March through early July, many of them in the West Pullman and Roseland neighborhoods.

Police say Bingmon and Stanford weren’t involved in gangs.

“Never in no streets, always did what grandma and mama told me,” Stanford said. “(Grandma) told us, ‘Leave them fools alone, they ain’t your friends.’ “
