Shares of Allscripts Healthcare Solutions Inc. surged by more than 10 percent on Wednesday, after the company reported better-than-expected second-quarter bookings.

The Chicago-based health care information technology company said it expects new business to exceed $200 million for the three months ended June 30, up from $194 million in the second quarter of 2012 and $178 million in its first quarter this year.

Allscipts also said the value of contracts in its pipeline rose to $3.1 billion, up about 13 percent over the previous quarter.

The company said this year that it plans to close at least 12 offices and one warehouse amid a larger corporate restructuring aimed at cutting costs.

Shares closed up up $1.35, or 10.10 percent, at $14.73. Allscripts stock is up more than 40 percent this year.
