HOUSTON, May 19 (Reuters) – A compressor failed on Saturday

night at Citgo Petroleum Corp’s 167,000 barrel per

day (bpd) Lemont, Illinois, refinery, triggering the plant’s

safety flare system, according to a notice filed by the refinery

with Illinois pollution regulators.

The flaring lasted for about 20 minutes, according to the

notice. A refinery uses its safety flare system when it cannot

process hydrocarbons normally due either to a malfunction or a

planned overhaul.

The notice filed by Citgo did not identify on which unit the

compressor was located. Citgo is the U.S. refining subsidiary of

Venezuela’s national oil company Petroleos de Venezuela SA

.
