No matter what sport, the coaching fraternity is a close-knit group, so Bulls’ coach Tom Thibodeau said he was “saddened” to hear about the Bears firing Lovie Smith.

“I didn’t (known him) but I’ve watched him from afar and I think he’s a great coach,” Thibodeau said before Monday’s game against the Bobcats. “I’m saddened to hear it. He had a great run. You know, 10-6, I thought they got the most out of the team.

“It’s the unfortunate part of the business. You hate to see it.”

Thibodeau has seen the Cubs and White Sox change managers as well during his reign. Plus, two NBA coaches already have been fired this season.

“It’s pro sports. It’s unfortunate,” he said. “Lovie’s proven to be a tremendous coach and he seems like a great guy. You hate to see anyone lose their job. But that’s the nature of the beast, I guess.”
