Jimmy Farrell, who became familiar to Chicago Cubs fans by placing the baseball on the Wrigley Field mound before each game, has died at age 91.

Farrell was the umpire room attendant at Wrigley for 26 years, retiring before the 2007 season. He is survived by four children, nine grandchilden and four great-grandchildren.

Cubs broadcaster Len Kasper ?tweeted:

“Very sad news: Our good friend Jimmy Farrell, long-time umpire room attendant at Wrigley, has passed away at 91. Maybe nicest person ever.”
