Activist hedge fund ValueAct Capital has increased its stake in Motorola Solutions to 10.3 percent, the firm disclosed Tuesday in a regulatory filing.

In March 2012, ValueAct reported a 9.9 percent stake in the Schaumburg-based maker of communications gear. The firm’s website said it seeks to amass “significant ownership stakes” in “companies that it believes are fundamentally undervalued.”

Last week, ValueAct partner Bradley Singer joined Motorola Solutions’ board along with Commonwealth Edison Chief Executive Anne Pramaggiore. Singer is based in ValueAct’s San Francisco office and was previously the chief financial officer at Discovery Communications.
