ArcelorMittal USA workers overwhelmingly ratified a three-year contract Thursday, securing a slight increase in wages.
The company’s “focus on short-term profits instead of long-term sustainability” made negotiations difficult, United Steelworkers District 1 Director David McCall said in a press release. McCall chaired negotiations with ArcelorMittal.
The agreement — approved by 94 percent of union voters — contains no lower pay scale and maintains seniority rights or pensions.
The union said in the press release that after a “combative” approach to negotiations in 2012, they are preparing to fight again in 2015.
