Three new cases of the West Nile virus were reported by the Will County Health Department today, doubling the county’s total number of reported human infections for the year.

Spokesman Vic Reato said the cases were reported to the county health department late Wednesday. Two of the most recent residents with the virus were hospitalized, while the third was not.

The three new cases include:

A Joliet man in his early 50s who reported a fever, headaches, dizziness, depression and an altered state of mind. He was hospitalized Aug. 31 to Sept. 7.

A Homer Glen woman in her 60s who reported a fever, muscle pain, headaches and a rash. She was hospitalized Sept. 8 and was released on an unknown date.

A Plainfield woman in her early 20s who reported feeling fatigued. She was not hospitalized.

Three previous human cases of the virus were reported in Will County residents from Bolingbrook, Romeoville and Crest Hill, according to the health department. Of the 118 total infections reported in Illinois this year, 26 have been reported since Monday.
