Lollapalooza has been making some efforts to do right by the environment for years, incentiving fans to pick up trash by awarding T-shirts to anyone who can fill a five-gallon bag with recyclables.

New this year is the Compass Green booth, set up by a couple of guys from Brooklyn who spend their days driving around the country in a truck they converted into a greenhouse, teaching kids about gardening and composting.

At Lolla they were handing out environmental tips and and free carrot juice – a lot of free carrot juice, from the looks of the giant tupperware fulll of dehydrated carrot sand beneath their juicer.

While on the road, the two play music for the plants, which prefer Mozart to heavy metal, according to Compass founder Justin Cutter. So how are the parsley, tomatoes and basil set up in their booth liking the bands?

“Probably not that great,” says Justin. “It’s a little bit chaotic.”
