An empty gun holster led to a weapons charge against an Evanston man early today outside a convenience store, authorities said.
Evanston police received a 911 call at 12:45 a.m. reporting a man with a gun in the parking lot outside 7-Eleven, 847 Dodge Ave.
Sean D. Rattray, 27, of the 800 block of Dodge Avenue, was charged with unlawful use of a weapon, a Class 4 felony. Rattray was unarmed when police arrived, said Evanston Police Spokesman Perry Polinski.
“When the police stopped him, he had a holster and that’s what led them to believe there is probably something that goes in it,” Polinski said.
After interviewing Rattray, police located the loaded .38-caliber handgun outside his home, which was on the same block as the convenience store. There were no shots fired, Polinski said.
