Gogo, one of the nation’s biggest providers of in-flight wireless Internet access, announced Monday that it has secured $135 million that will be used to boost Wi-Fi offerings on international flights.
Long reliant on ground towers for connectivity, Gogo is turning to the next frontier of in-flight Wi-Fi — satellite networks — which will allow it to extend service to planes flying over oceans.
It will offer Wi-Fi on commercial aircraft over the Atlantic as soon as the end of the year, the company says.
Gogo has offices in suburban Itasca, among other locations.
