Oscar Mayer wants consumers to know what exactly is in their hot dogs.
The Madison, Wis.-based company has introduced a new line of meats with no artificial preservatives, flavors or colors in an attempt to give consumers “more simple, everyday ingredients.”
The line, deemed Selects, includes 12 varieties of meats, including six hot dogs, five cold cuts and bacon, and is currently available in grocery stores across the country.
“More and more, consumers today want simple, everyday ingredients they know and trust,” Heather Buettner, Oscar Mayer’s senior director of new product development, said in a press release. “They want food they can feel good about that is affordable and easy to find.”
The new meats build on Oscar Mayer Selects Hot Dogs, which the company launched in 2010 to a strong consumer response, Buettner said.
The line extnsion is part of Oscar Mayer’s 2012 initiative to have 50 percent of its new products be free of artificial preservatives. Oscar Mayer, one of Kraft Foods Inc.’s 12 brands, also aims to reduce sodium by 20 percent across its portfolio by the end of the year and have 20 percent free of artificial preservatives by 2015.
