Comedian and radio host Steve Harvey’sbook “Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man” became a bestseller advising women on the game of love from a man’s perspective. “Think Like a Man,” the movie adaptation of the book, stars Gabrielle Union, Regina Hall and Meagan Good, among others.
Q: Is finding that right person all that difficult?
Good: I think it’s harder to “find” the right relationship than it is to keep it. Once you find it and it’s based on truth and from a genuine place, then it’s not that hard. It’s just like any other relationship. It’s just weeding out who’s genuine and who’s not before finding that right person.
Union: Well, I think it’s difficult because so many other people chiming in about it when you’re in it. In our relationship, me and (Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade) are tight. We’re straight … we’re amazing. It’s everyone else who is looking on, from the outside, making comments without being in our relationship. So if you see us at a restaurant and I’m reading the menu and he’s looking at Twitter, people say, “Oh, they’re on the rocks” and the next thing you know, it’s all over, but it has nothing to do with what we’re actually doing.
Hall: But I find dating is hard. There was a guy who was trying to talk to me, and I looked so bad. I’m sure he was only talking to me because I’m on TV. There was nothing right with me that day and he was saying things like, “You are beautiful.” That’s the hard part. It almost shrinks the circle you can date.
Union: I have tried playing Cupid for Regina. It’s tough. I want them to get to know her before they realize that it’s Regina Hall. You should want to be with her because of what she’s like and what she has accomplished, not because she’s famous. And that applies to almost everyone.
Appreciate the person for who she is.

Hall: I think it’s interesting how calculating people can be in a relationship. Then you become a little bit more (calculating) in the next situation, then you don’t know what to do. You turn to girlfriends for advice; maybe we should be getting advice from men. I think that’s the message.
Q: Is this a movie that guys will want to watch?
Good: If anything, it shows a lot of the men’s perspectives of what they’re thinking. I think to a certain degree they do even more so than women, but it gives you an insight to what we are thinking as well. It’s definitely not a man-bashing film.
Hall: Yeah, I think the book and movie are trying to show how relationships can do better. It’s actually about misunderstandings and understandings; and how women can love the man in a better way. We have shortcomings a lot and so do the men. So it’s not against one or the other.
Union: You are going to see yourself reflected in one of these characters, and it’s a little uncomfortable. They help explain how you can love better and live better, and they do it in a way that’s so funny and entertaining. They just don’t show you who you are and say, “Aren’t you awful?”
Hall: And you don’t realize that you’re getting a message when you watch these characters evolve. It’s a slow evolution for these men and women. And you know what I think? Even though there are some bumps in the road, the truth is that these men loved those women, and those women loved these men.
