A retired Lindenhurst police chief has been named acting police chief in Grayslake, officials said.

The village hired Jack McKeever to serve while Grayslake police Chief Matt McCutcheon is on administrative leave, according to a news release. McCutcheon was placed on leave Friday after he was charged with driving while intoxicated

“His years of experience as a police chief in our area makes Jack well-suited to assist Grayslake,” Mayor Rhett Taylor said Wednesday.

The new acting chief was hired after a candidate interview process, officials said.

McKeever was Lindenhurst’s police chief from 1993 until his retirement in 2011. He has a bachelor’s degree in philosophy, a master’s in theology and a master’s in public administration.

McCutcheon was involved in an accident March 30 just over the Wisconsin boarder. Kenosha County sheriff’s police said McCutcheon crossed over the center line and struck another vehicle while turning south on U.S. Route 45.

Police said McCutcheon later acknowledged he had three cocktails with dinner.

In addition to serving Grayslake, the police department provides services to neighboring Hainesville.
