The Chicago premiere of a work by innovative Swedish choreographer Mats Ek is among the offerings on tap for Hubbard Street Dance Chicago’s 2012-13 35th-anniversary season.
Similar to this season, there will be three engagements at the Harris Theater, followed by another venture in original choreography in the summer of 2013 at the Museum of Contemporary Art. The schedule begins with the previously announced premiere of Alejandro Cerrudo’s first full-length endeavor, inspired by Marc Chagall’s “America Windows,” Oct. 18-21 at the Harris. A winter line-up there Dec. 6-9 includes Ek’s “Casi-Casa,” originally staged for Danza Contemporanea de Cuba, along with a revival of Aszure Barton’s “Untouched” and two works by Cerrudo, including “PACOPEPEPLUTO,” set to Dean Martin.
The March 14-17 engagement at the Harris will feature the company’s long-planned collaboration with Alonzo King and his LINES Ballet, boasting dancers from both troupes in King’s work, which will premiere in February in Berkeley, Calif. A follow-up to this season’s “danc(e)volve: New Works Festival” will play June 6-16, 2013 at the MCA.
On the touring schedule, Hubbard will play New York’s Joyce Theatre next year.
