The National Park Service is offering free admission to all 397 national parks during April 21–29 as part of “National Park Week.”
In addition to the free admission (many national parks have no entry fee to begin with), the Park Service is planning special events and activities around the country. These special events can be searched by location or on a state-by-state basis on the Park Service’s event calendar here.
Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, only about an hour from downtown Chicago, is holding one of its “Stewardship Days” during National Park Week. Volunteers can help by removing invasive species, planting flowers or other tasks depending on weather conditions. Volunteers should wear comfortable shoes and clothes and Indiana Dunes will handle the rest.
