Gas prices increased by 12 cents per gallon over the past three weeks, according to a

Lundberg Survey

released this weekend. The hike, blamed mostly on the cost of crude oil, was the first large increase in gas prices since mid-October.

Los Angeles narrowly edged Chicago for the highest average price. A gallon of gas that will go for a cut-rate $3.68 in Chicago runs you a much steeper $3.69 in LA.

Salt Lake City, Utah, has America’s cheapest gas with an average price of $2.86 per gallon.

Here’s the average gas price in a few other cities:

– Houston: $3.17

– Atlanta: $3.32

– Portland: $3.40

– Boston: $3.41
