On the brink of a new year, travel legend Arthur Frommer made his picks for 10 travel spots worth a look. And, of course, Paris made the cut. “I can never get enough of this glorious capital, whose beauty has been so well captured in Woody Allen’s recent ‘Midnight in Paris’ film,” Frommer writes on his blog.

For those falling in love with the City of Light all over again (count me among them), Virgin Vacations has an air-hotel deal for winter travelers in Chicago that costs about $1,000 per person based on double occupancy. Yes it will be cold, but it will also be less crowded, and who wouldn’t be enchanted by seeing Montmartre under a dusting of snow?

The six-day/four-night package comes with Chicago-Paris round-trip airfare (on the dates I tested, flights were on United and Lufthansa), a stay at the Kyriad Bercy Village (spend more for an upgrade) and daily breakfast.

The package is offered year-round but the cheapest departures are Jan. 18 and 25, and Feb. 1, 15 and 22. I checked availability for the Jan. 18 departure from Chicago and found a price of $1,010 per person, including tax and fees. Not bad considering round-trip Chicago-Paris airfares at that time of year start at $741 per person, according to Kayak.com. Travel insurance and other hotel options are extra.
