Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Barely a snowflake has fallen around these parts, but one of the skiing areas closest to Chicago is opening for business anyway.

Chairlifts at Wilmot Mountain — which, let’s be fair, is more of a hill — will start operating at 2 p.m. Friday. Such is the benefit of making your own snow

.

However, Wilmot is making no promises about which runs or chairlifts will be open. The information should be on its website Friday.

Other nearby ski areas also are coming to life, including Sunburst, in Kewaskum, Wis., 130 miles north of Chicago, which opens tomorrow.

Know of other Midwestern ski areas that are open or will open soon? Please add them in the comments section below.
