On the heels of the much buzzed about Radisson Blu opening around the corner, Swissotel has some big plans of its own.
This week the hotel begins a four-month, $10 million renovation of its lobby, promising a sleeker look and a new restaurant.
“Pulling inspiration from its original architect, Harry Weese,” Swissotel will “create a modern design with natural elements that reflect the hotel’s Swiss heritage,” according to a statement.
Instead of the standard front desk, staff armed with laptop computers will greet guests at “check-in pods,” presumably to create more intimate experiences upon arrival. The concierge, meanwhile, will have an iPad to show guests how exactly to get to Millennium Park and find the nearest deep-dish pizza.
The hotel is adding Amuse, yet another small-plate, specialty-cocktail, wine-pairing restaurant with “DJ-style music.” Swissotel is also renovating a meeting space.
