An 18-year-old man was ordered held on $300,000 bail after he allegedly shot at police who were responding to a “big gang party” at a home on the South Side, officials said.
Altorio Hampton, 18, of the 8000 block of South Colfax Avenue is charged with three counts of resisting a police officer and one count each of discharging a weapon, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, aggravated assault on a police officer with a firearm. He was also charged with reckless discharge of a firearm and possessing between 30 and 500 grams of cannabis, according to police.
He was arrested Friday night after neighbors called police to a “big gang party” in the 1600 block of East 67th Street, according to police.
Officers smelled marijuana and as they entered the party, a man ran from them out the rear door, prosecutors said. Other party-goers fled with police following behind.
As Hampton stepped to the doorway he pulled a .38-caliber handgun and shot at an officer before other police wrestled him to the ground, officials said.
Officers found 34 ziplock bags of marijuana in his jacket, according to the police report.
Nobody was injured and two weapons were recovered, police said.
