Hotwire.com has released its October Travel Savings Indicator, which rates the top five cities in North America for savings on hotel rates, airfares and car rentals.

In order of greatest decrease in hotel rates are Rochester, N.Y. (average three-star hotel rate $75, down 12 percent); Chattanooga, Tenn. (four stars, $115, 7 percent); Boise, Idaho (three stars, $51, 7 percent); Santa Fe, N.M. (four stars, $120, 6 percent); Williamsburg, Va. (four stars, $62, 5 percent).

For airfare price decreases: Knoxville, Tenn. (average Hotwire airfare $296, down 11 percent); Kahului, Hawaii ($456, 3 percent); Phoenix, Ariz. ($246, 3 percent); Boise ($282, 1 percent); Chicago ($242, 1 percent).

For car rentals: Honolulu (average Hotwire daily rate $17, down 59 percent); Washington, D.C. ($28, 57 percent); Orlando, Fla. ($17, 51 percent); Boston ($22, 49 percent); Las Vegas ($25, down 48 percent).

OK. Santa Fe, sure. Orlando, sure. But maybe it’s time to give Boise a try.
