One teen was killed and another injured in a shooting Sunday night in Waukegan that police believe was gang-related, police said.

The incident happened at about 9:30 p.m. in the 800 block of Cummings Avenue, according to a statement from Waukegan police.

Officers responded to the block and found two male teens shot there, an 18-year-old and a 13-year-old. The older teen died on the scene, while the younger one was taken to Vista East Medical Center for “treatment of non-life-threatening injuries,” police said.

Witnesses told police that a person on foot stood at the corner of Lincoln and Cummings avenues and fired several shots at the two victims. The gunman then ran from the scene.

The dead teen was identified as Edgar Gonzalez, of the 400 block of Lincoln Avenue, police said. The 13-year-old is from North Chicago.

“I personally met with the victim’s parents last night at the scene and gave my condolences,” Waukegan Police Chief Dan Greathouse said in the statement. “I also assured them that we will do everything we can to bring the offender(s) to justice.”
