Give it up for Colorado, which today marks its 135th year as the nation’s 38th state. Frontier Airlines celebrates by cutting airfares from Chicago to several cities in the Centennial State, starting at $84 each way to Denver — and you can book a late summer, fall or early winter vacation.

The deal: Colorado Day Sale fares from Midway International Airport (MDW) cost $84 to Denver, $94 to Colorado Springs and $114 to Durango and Aspen. Non-Colorado sale destinations include $94 to Albuquerque and $99 to Austin. (Prices exclude taxes and fees.)

When: The offer is good for travel through Dec. 15, but you must buy tickets by 10:59 p.m. CDT Wednesday. Read the fine print for blackout dates and other rate rules.

Tested: Fly on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays to get the cheapest seats in this sale. For Chicago-Denver round-trip flights, I found availability in October (using random dates Oct. 11 and returning Oct. 15) for a slightly lower $79 on the outbound flight and $84 on the return. Total trip cost with tax and fees: $177.
