As if we needed yet another reason to write about The Drawing Room…
Still, it’s a big deal when one of our favorite bars in Chicago is named one of Esquire’s Best Bars in America — especially because that elite list is overseen by esteemed cocktail historian (and Esquire drink columnist) David Wondrich.
Wondrich held his book release party for “Punch: The Delights (and Dangers) of the Flowing Bowl” at The Drawing Room last fall and must have been impressed. Esquire’s June/July “Best Bars” issue hits newsstands May 31 and calls The Drawing Room “functional, not fancy,” and goes as far as dubbing head bartender Charles Joly a genius — which we’ve known for years.
