Is it time to move girls soccer season to the fall, like Indiana and a number of other states?

With more schools installing turf on their stadium fields, this is something that should be revisited.

Spring weather is very unpredictable in Illinois. Last Saturday it was 70 degrees and sunny. This Saturday, some areas could see snow flurries.

The Illinois High School Association may say the 2011 season officially began Feb. 28, but how many teams were actually outside practicing on that date?

How many girls soccer teams have been forced to reschedule matches because of weather? By doing that, a number of programs are forced to play four and five games a week, which kills the overall quality of soccer, not to mention increases the chance for injury.

Why should boys soccer be played in better weather conditions than girls soccer?

And before anyone says differently, I want someone to tell me the last time a regular-season boys soccer match was cancelled because it was too cold?

Another hot start:

For the third time in four years, Mundelein got off to quick start by going unbeaten in its first six games (5-0-1).

“We’re possessing the ball well and working hard on the field,” said Mundelein coach

Dave Ekstrom

, who is retiring at season’s end.

Ashley Begrowicz

(6 goals, 5 assists),

Abbey Ekstrom

(2 goals, 5 assists) and defender

Nathalie Mathis

keyed the strong start.

Question is will Mundelein finish as strong as it started?
