I can’t remember a time when reading didn’t play a major role in my life. I love to read, and I love books. I love the feel of thick, weighty pages, the smell of used-book stores, the thrill of the chase in hunting down the perfect book for different days, different weather, different people.

But, as industries change and grow, as they expand in some places but shrink in others, I’ve come to understand that the focus was never really on books at all but on the content. It’s far less about the method of delivery, and far more about the story.

And, in reaching such a place — in coming to the realization that adding an e-reader to my household inventory is not a replacement or relinquishment of my beloved books, but rather is an added layer of content delivery, one more way to step into reading in a given moment — I find myself eyeballing the options.
