Texture

The matte trend may not have stuck to every nailbed across the nation, but for ladies who love it, manufacturers are still churning out cool colors that intentionally lack luster. Another trend we peeped is adding trinkets and gems — in tasteful measures, please — to your mani. Nylon magazine even referenced a haute look by makeup artist Topolino that incorporates actual rose thorns lacquered onto nails for dangerously trendy tips.

Color

Splashes of eye-catching colors are big for fall — think coral-colored shoes with a neutral-colored sheath dress — and that extends to your fingers and toes too. Along with vibrant orange-reds and even green, shades of blue, from pretty periwinkle to more bold violets, are on the menu. If neutral is your nature, avoid the usual pale pink and get clever with a khaki-green or a lighter taupe tone, or embrace the return of the metallic trend with a subtle bronze or high-shine silver or gold chrome polish.

Designs

Ask your manicurist to take your talons to new lengths with some sleek, minimalist nail art. Or, if you’d rather do it yourself, one great way to shake up your polish routine at home is by using a DIY French manicure kit’s curved stickers (the ones used as guides to paint a tidy white French-mani tip) at the base of your nail instead of the tip to create a small moon of blank nail — unless you choose to paint it in a contrasting color — below your polish.
