We like the idea of plant markers, but we don’t always like the way they look. Yet, it’s nice to see labels that remind us what the heck we planted, either in a bed or container.

This simple idea from Martha Stewart’s Web site, marthastewart.com, strikes the right balance of practicality, ease and natural beauty: smooth stones, nestled near the plant. Stewart’s site used alphabet stamps and a dye-based (permanent) ink, which looks charming.

We would opt for Sharpies: Why not label your plants with the same hand that lovingly planted them?
