Many people who are over 18 (and not a teacher) haven’t seen a real school lunch in years.
Now members of Congress — most of them long past their school years — are about to decide new funding for the National School Lunch Program. http://www.chicagotribune.com/ Most school lunch advocates say making real improvements to school lunches would require adding an additional dollar to the $2.68 currently spent per meal. But last month, the Senate Agriculture Committee suggested kicking in … another 6 cents.
Now the legislation will be considered by the full Senate and House, where advocates hope it will pick up some extra change.
A couple of local bloggers — one student and one teacher — have been posting pictures and complaints about their schools’ lunches in hopes that legislators will sit up, feel a little queasy and take notice. Check them out at

If you, too, think your school lunches should be seen by taxpayers and congressmen, you can e-mail or text pictures of a typical lunch to
or text them to 312-714-6677. We will publish the best on
and perhaps in print as well.
When you send photos, please include your name, the name of your school and the date you shot the food so we can cross-check it with your local school menu. And please let us know if you want your name or school mentioned in the caption.
