A Cook County judge set bail at $200,000 Saturday for an Orland Park restaurant manager charged with reckless homicide and drunken driving in a crash that killed his 20-year-old girlfriend.
Nick Sord, 22, had a cast on one arm and said little in court before Circuit Judge John Turner.
Prosecutors and police said Sord had a blood-alcohol level at nearly three times the legal limit as he drove his Mercedes SUV west on 147th Street near Oak Park Avenue about 4:20 a.m. Thursday. Sord was trying to make a turn, scraped a light pole, then careened into a ditch where the vehicle partially rolled over, authorities said.

Passenger Jessica Mejia of New Lenox was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown around the interior of the vehicle during the crash, prosecutors said Saturday. Mejia, a junior at the University of Illinois at Chicago, was dead at the scene.
After the hearing, Sord’s lawyer, Jeff Kendall, said that Sord is not a business partner with Blackhawks legend Denis Savard in a restaurant scheduled to open this month in Munster, Ind., as previously reported.
