“P.S.: Further Thoughts From a Lifetime of Listening”
By Studs Terkel
New Press, 240 pages, $16.95
Studs didn’t live to see this collection of unpublished writings and interviews hit the bookstores because, as he would say, he “checked out” a year ago today, when he was 96, in a cruel Halloween trick. To read through this volume — from his 1961 interview with James Baldwin to his assorted pieces on the two-faced Janus we know as Chicago — provides some salve, a reminder of his enduring influence and proof that, in his words: “Curiosity did not kill this cat.”
