Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Want to pull your hair out whenever you attempt to balance your checking account? Are you drowning in endless ATM withdrawals, non-bank ATM fees and debit charges?

Well stop using your card. Doing so is easier than you think.

To transition back to the world of cash, figure out your budget. Pull out your pay stub and a calculator to figure out how much you can afford to spend each week on food, entertainment, dry cleaning and other expenses. Whatever that amount is, withdraw that weekly sum from the ATM on a particular day, say Friday.

Then don’t visit the ATM or use your debit card any other times during the week. Deposit whatever cash is left at the end of the week into a savings account (try an online high-yield savings account for the best rate). Chances are, not only will you find yourself making far fewer frivolous purchases (you’ll see your physical cash reserves dwindle) and you’ll find it simple to keep track of what you have in the bank.
