Too much red meat is bad for your health, scientific research says.

Well, somebody send that message to Hollywood.

Country singers, actors, rockers and sexy starlets are engaging in Grade A beef more fit for 50 Cent.

Even the affable Ashton Kutcher jumped into a feud Wednesday with a wager he can reach a million Twitter followers before CNN. Kutcher’s YouTube bravado inspired CNN to unleash one of its ancient weapons, Larry King, onto the InterWebs with a mocking response.

But at least Kutcher and King/CNN are kidding.

Not so much for other Hollywood feuds, including:

Toby Keith vs. Ethan Hawke

The beef: In a recent Rolling Stone profile, Hawke wrote a first-person account of an alleged showdown between a country musician identified as “the Star” and singer Kris Kristofferson. Keith has said the unnamed “Star” is him, and railed against being depicted as a hawkish wiseguy during a 2003 concert.

What’s really cooking: Yes, Keith comes across like a bomb-crazed buffoon in the Rolling Stone article so it’s understandable he would be upset, especially when Hawke wasn’t remotely subtle with his hints. However, intense Hawke-hating and calling the account a “fictitious [expletive] lie” makes it seem more likely Keith did get crazy at that concert. Advantage: Hawke.

Stevie Nicks vs. Lindsay Lohan

The beef: Rocker Stevie Nicks blasted LiLo during a recent New York Times interview after being told Lohan was interested in buying the rights to her story and possibly portraying her in a biopic. “Over my dead body,” Nicks told the paper, adding: “She needs to stop doing drugs and get a grip.”

What’s really cooking: Nicks is entitled to an opinion about who might play her in a movie, but picking on Lohan is like punting a puppy. Currently, the scarlet-haired starlet’s most buzzed-about role is playing herself in a self-deprecating eHarmony send-up. Give the girl a break.

Scarlet Johansson vs. The Media

The beef: ScarJo went Huffington Postal in a Monday piece called “The Skinny,” in which she railed against “toilet paper rags” reporting that she is preparing for her “Iron Man 2” role by getting “on a strict workout routine regulated by co-stars, whipped into shape by trainers I’ve never met, eating sprouted grains I can’t pronounce.”

What’s really cooking: Johansson is peeved because the breathless, and what she called untrue, tab accounts of her workout regimen set a poor example for young girls and could encourage eating disorders. Excellent point, and frankly, it is annoying to read continuous coverage about which actresses are too big, too thin or on the cusp of reaching either state. ScarJo wins this round.
