Class 3A regional final at Hillcrest

Records: Hillcrest 19-9, Rich South 17-9

Halftime: Rich South 31-23

Summary: Hillcrest was terrible from the free-throw line, but Julius Brown knocked his down for the Hawks when they desperately needed them. The sophomore guard hit two super-bonus free throws with 12.4 seconds remaining in overtime to give Hillcrest the cushion it needed. The Hawks, on several occasions, could not put away Rich South as they were a dismal 16-for-38 from the line. Brown was the catalyst for Hillcrest in the second half and overtime as he scored 19 of his game-high 22 points.

Top performers: Hillcrest ? Brown 22 points 3 steals, Travis Scott 22 points 6 rebounds. Rich South ? Macari Brooks 12 points 6 rebounds, Blake McElroy 11 points.

The bonus: “We came out sluggish in the first half, but we were able to pick it up in the second half,” Brown said. “They were physical with us, and that may have caused us to shoot so badly at the free-throw line.”
