Summary:

For four quarters, Prospect forward Kevin Reed was barely a factor in the Mid-Suburban League championship game against Schaumburg on Wednesday night in Mt. Prospect. With six points and four fouls, he made up his mind to change that as the Knights and Saxons headed to overtime. The 6-7 senior scored the first two points of the extra session and added six more, including a free throw with 2.1 seconds left, to wrap up Prospect’s MSL title. He finished with 14 points and seven rebounds. Schaumburg had beaten Prospect 63-50 on Jan. 6. But Wednesday, Prospect played with more determination in front of a large home crowd. This time the Knights moved to a 24-18 lead in the second quarter and 37-29 in the third. But Schaumburg went on a 15-2 run to grab a 44-41 advantage on Perrish Bell’s three-point play at 5:46 of the fourth quarter.

Top performers:

Propect–Joe Latulip 23 points; Jason Leblebijian 15 points; Reed; Schaumburg–Josh Spandiary 13 points; Blake Mueller 13 points, 6 rebounds; Justin Swiercz 10 points.

The bonus:

“All game, I wasn’t playing aggressively and Schaumburg’s players were pushing me around,” Reed said. “I was never in good position. I took it upon myself to take control in the overtime. I just attacked instead of letting them push me around.”
