Summary:
Hinsdale led 45-39 heading into the fourth quarter before Proviso stormed back. Guard Tremel Owens’ three-pointer with 5:38 remaining capped a 10-4 Panther run to start the fourth and put Proviso ahead for the first time since midway through the second quarter. Proviso led by as many as seven late when Hinsdale closed the game on a 10-4 run, including a three-pointer from guard John Whitelaw (19 points) to tie the score at 61-61 with :26 to go. Proviso’s Donate Moore, who had 15 of his 19 points in the second half, hit one of two free throws with :05.6 remaining. Hinsdale forward Jason Rafferty’s drive down the lane in the closing seconds resulted in no shot and no call as Proviso captured its first outright WSC Silver title since 1997.
