Summary:
Kendrick Nichols scored the last basket in the Brooks gym, which is scheduled to be torn down in April, and it proved to be a game-winner as Nichols scored on a drive with four seconds remaining to give Brooks its first berth in the Public League quarterfinals. Nichols came off the bench and scored Brooks’ last eight points as the Eagles stormed back from a 16-point second-quarter deficit. Kennan Smith stole the ball with 10 seconds to go and score tied at 51 to set up Nichols game winner. After Nichols basket, Michael Powell Jr. grabbed another steal in the backcourt to snuff out any chance for No. 19 Farragut.

“It feels great, there’s a lot of history in this gym, I mean it’s been here for I don’t know how long,” said Nichols about scoring a game winning basket in the last game in the old gym that was once part of Mendel Catholic High School. “My mom and dad always told me about the gym, how many games they’ve been to. It feels great, last basket, game winner, making history, first time this school going to the quarterfinals.”
