Antioch 12-0, Glenbard South 9-3

Summary:

Antioch running back Cameron White got redemption for losing a fumble at Glenbard South’s 4 near the end of regulation by throwing a 14-yard touchdown pass on the first possession in overtime. He hit quarterback Matt Romani on a broken play that was intended for a wide receiver. Just before that, White had gained 76 yards on nine carries to the Raiders 4, then was leveled by South linebacker Austin Teitsma, who forced the fumble with 9 seconds left in the fourth quarter.

South quarterback Trace Wanless threw a 7-yard scoring pass to Teitsma on the Raiders overtime possession, but kicker Logan Futris just missed wide left on the extra point attempt.

Curtis Ford put South on the board first on a 72-yard run on the second play of the game, and Wanless ran the ball in from 12 yards out at 11:27 of the second for a 14-0 lead.

Antioch came back on a 4-yard run by Steve Lorenzini, and White ripped off a 64-yard punt return to set up his game-tying scamper from the 2 with 1:32 left in the second quarter, making it 14-14. The Raiders went ahead 21-14 on a three-yard run by Wanless with 8:36 left to play in the third quarter, and the Sequoits tied it 21-21 on DeVonte Miller’s 26-yard romp at 1:31 of the third.

Top performers:

Antioch–White, 26 carries, 140 yards, TD (2 yards); 1-for-1 passing, TD (14); RB Steve Lorenzini, 13 carries, 43 yards, TD (4); Glenbard South–Curtis Ford, 14 carries, 141 yards, TD (72); Wanless, 12 carries, 107 yards, 2 TDs (12, 3), 5-for-8, 40 yards, TD (7).

Extra point:

“Actually it wasn’t a planned play,” Romani said of Antioch’s touchdown in overtime. “It was a pass to the wide receiver. I was just looking for someone to block. The corner ran up, so I ran into the end zone, and I know Cameron can throw it.”
