Taking one-stop shopping to a new level, British grocery chain Sainsbury’s plans next week to introduce its first in-store dental clinic.
British groceries — like their U.S. counterparts — already offer a range of in-store services, from pharmacies to furniture showrooms to real estate agencies. Sainsbury’s announced earlier this year that it intends to offer after-hours doctor’s appointments at several stores in the Manchester area.
Under the new dentistry program, part of the chain’s “Try something new today” motto, shoppers can stop by for a first-come, first-served filling or teeth cleaning along with their loaf of bread and carton of milk. The mini-clinic will be located near the store checkout and pharmacy.
Sainsbury’s officials did not speculate on what effect the sound of a dental drill may have on last-minute sales of sticky candy from the checkout sales racks.
