Some of the country’s finest artisans descend on Evanston this week for the American Craft Exposition. Here are five of our favorites.
1. ROCKIN’ CHAIR
The curves of Richard Judd’s Ribbon Chair lend it an animated, in-motion appearance. The chair comes from Judd’s collection of bent wood pieces.

2. BIRD IN BOX
Vermont artist David Montgomery aims to elicit a bit of curiosity and mystery with his wood and paper aviaries. Orioles at the Shore counts as one of his larger works, measuring 8 by 21 inches.
Cost: $725. 802-885-8777, workingbirds.com
3. BASKET BY BIBA
Though classified as a basketry artist by ACE, Biba Schutz actually uses threads of metal to create her “woven” art. The Donald, shown here, is Schutz’s bronze-and-copper interpretation of Trump’s famous comb-over.
Cost: $3,900. 212-947-3903, bibaschutz.com
4. NATURE PRESERVED
Netsuke, a Japanese form of miniature sculpture, has become a second career for carver Janel Jacobson, who began as a potter more than 30 years ago. Jacobson carves delicate leaves, twigs and nuts for her Seven Wonders collection, shown here, from pieces of hardwood and mammoth tusk.
Cost: $7,500. 651-674-4555, janeljacobson.com
