Ed Sherman previews six players to watch at the PGA Championship.
1. Phil Mickelson: Mickelson desperately wants to win majors to enhance his legacy, but he has been stuck on three since winning the 2006 Masters. The left-hander tanked down the stretch last week. Will he do it again if he gets into contention?
2. Kenny Perry: Hey, look who’s finally playing in his first major of the year! What, no lower-level event in Omaha? Perry has been taking a ton of heat for skipping the U.S. and British opens. He could shut up a lot of people with a strong showing at Oakland Hills.
3. Steve Stricker: After getting off to a strong start, Stricker has struggled at times this year. But he got hot at this point last year. He could do it again.
4. Anthony Kim: Kim has flashed his vast potential in winning twice this year in regular events. Now it is time for him to make a move in a major.
5. Sergio Garcia: With the exception of winning the Players Championship, Garcia has been relatively quiet this year. Oakland Hills is a long course that puts a premium on accuracy. It could be a good fit for Garcia if he gets his putter working.
6. K.J. Choi: South Korean women have won the last three majors on the LPGA Tour. Choi could strike for his country on the PGA Tour.
