Polish fans were thrilled to see their beloved Wisla Krakow take on the Fire Wednesday night at Toyota Park. The score wasn’t as thrilling.

With a loud pro-Wisla crowd of 14,040 looking on, the two sides managed only a 0-0 tie.

“The Fire was playing very tough,” Wisla manager Maciej Skorza said. “It wasn’t easy for us.”

Fire coach Denis Hamlett rested his starters. The only players in the lineup who had started a regular-season game this year were Wilman Conde, Calen Carr, Logan Pause and Tomasz Frankowski.

Frankowski spent most of his career with Wisla, where he won five Polish championships.

Wisla’s Mauro Cantoro was ejected after receiving his second yellow card for dissent. The yellows piled on for the Fire late in the match as well with Conde, C.J. Brown and Daniel Woolard each being shown a card.

For Brown, this was his first appearance of the season. The Fire captain missed the team’s first eight games with hip tendinitis.

The Fire is now 5-4-3 at home in friendlies.
